Rider Wellbeing Program
Statewide

Horse and Rider- Movement Assessment & Analysis
Location: clubs and private residences.

  • Private Horse & Rider (1 horse and rider per session) - structural alignment, positioning and posture, technique, musculoskeletal deficiencies etc.
  • Small Group - (max 3 horse & rider per session) - structural alignment, positioning and posture, technique, musculoskeletal deficiencies etc.

*Available for club and private workshops, demonstrations and teaching sessions*

The course covers seat position (hip/back/leg positioning), weight distribution (balance), structural alignment (posture), correct core activation (Pelvic Floor/Abdominals - less fatigue), Ventroflexed gaits (conformation) and spinal positions and how the rider can help the horse overcome this positioning.

Have you ever considered that your structural alignment & muscular deficiencies are having a damaging effect on your horse? Countless amounts of riders have not considered this! Through working with many riders it is apparent that there is a missing connection between their body alignment, mechanical functioning and that of the horse. Sports conditioning such as Clinical Pilates/Musculoskeletal Therapy for Equestrian, Distance/Endurance and Show etc focuses on postural alignment, core stability, balance, strengthening and flexibility.

Rider Wellbeing Program

all in-studio classes available:
Location: Brighton studio

  • Beginner Mat Pilates - 5 week course (max 6 people per class) - addresses pelvic floor & abdominal activation, correct muscle recruitment, postural alignment and seat position etc.
  • Intermediate - Advanced Mat Pilates (max 6 people per class) - continued development from beginner course.
  • Studio Equipment - (max 2 people per class) specific issues such as muscle deficiencies, structural/postural problems are worked on through the use of specialised equipment.

These benefits are all part of making a healthy and safe rider.

The idea behind "Rider wellbeing" is to create a safe environment and bond between the rider and the horse. Both spines should align as one and in many situations I have seen, this bond does not occur. This can cause many problems for both the horse and rider ie, lack of control and following of instruction, on the horses behalf and changes in spinal alignment, muscle function/overuse causing fatigue and often resulting in injury.

The benefits of Pilates include:
• Improved balance, core stability, flexibility & coordination without stress on your joints
• Low impact - no wearing of the ligaments and cartilage surrounding the joints
• A healthy flexible spine
• Improved wellbeing
• Rehabilitation after a fall or injury resulting in less stiffness and pain
• Reduced stress
• Increased blood flow and Oxygen intake - improved muscle function and less fatigue
